From the Famous Author of "Keep Gays and Whores Out of the Classroom"

Yep, that's right (far right). Our own Senator No, Jim Demint has a new book.

Back in 2004, Senator Demint proposed eliminating the IRS and replacing it with a 23% national sales tax. That was after it was revealed that he had several tax liens for failure to pay his own taxes. Of course, that was during the same campaign where he suggested that gays, lesbians, and women who live with their boyfriends (though, one notes, not men who live with their girlfriends) should not be allowed to teach in the public schools.

But now, as "America is sliding towards socialism" he will save us, if we only read Saving Freedom, avaiable FREE with a minimum $25 donation to The Senate Conservatives Fund. According to Senator DeMint, "its mission is to bring bold leadership to Washington by supporting only the most rock-solid, conservative Senate candidates nationwide — candidates who believe in limited government, a strong national defense, and traditional family values."

I just can't wait to get my copy.

DeMint's tax is really a 30% tax. He gets to 23% by sleight of hand.

Say you buy something for $100. A 30% tax would be $30 of tax. That's what DeMint's proposal really is.

Now, DeMint says, well, that $30 of tax is really only 23% of the total amount you paid. See, you paid $130, and $30/$130=23%. Voila.

Anyway, any normal person would describe the situation as a 30% tax, not a 23% tax. DeMint is being either a misleading parser with his communication on this issue or a total liar.
