Lindsay Graham Makes Me Proud to Be A South Carolinian, Where at Least I Know I'm Free to Lie

Makes me proud to be a South Carolinian, let me tell you, Lindsey Graham does. John over at A Lie A Day and the inimitable Not Very Bright have tried to jump start a story that is being ignored by our South Carolina media (with the exception of a single Post and Courier report). It seems that our very own Senior Senator actually lied to the Supreme Court, attempting to prevent the court from ruling on the Hamdan decision, the fateful decision that last week overturned the Administration’s arguments that detainees in the “war on terror” have no legal standing under the Constitution or international law.

Senator Graham says: "I know what I've done. I've done it before and I'll do it again." Good thing, lying to the Supreme Court. Good to know he’ll do it again, because these terrorists are trying to destroy our way of life, our precious freedoms and our dedication to justice and human rights. Unless somebody in the government is willing to lie to stop them, they will succeed. That’s why Graham voted in favor of an constitutional amendment to ban flag burning. He’s lying there, too. He actually does not believe in the flag or the Republic for which it stands, and he wants to protect the monopoly that Congress has on flag burning. That way Senators and Representatives can continue to trample the flag with fake testimony, fake speeches and fake patriotism. That way they can continue to support an Administration whose failed policies have embroiled us in civil wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, have allowed the two most dangerous regimes in the world to develop nuclear weapons, have brought Israel and the Arab world into full-fledged warfare and still the terrorists go merrily about blowing up innocent people in India. It takes a liar of world class quality to support all that and tell us he’s doing it all for us.

Makes me proud, I tell you. We can’t let the terrorists win.

It’s why terrorist drivel like this needs to be banned:

What the American Flag Stands For
by Charlotte Aldebron

The American flag stands for the fact that cloth can be very important. It is against the law to let the flag touch the ground or to leave the flag flying when the weather is bad. The flag has to be treated with respect. You can tell just how important this cloth is because when you compare it to people, it gets much better treatment. Nobody cares if a homeless person touches the ground. A homeless person can lie all over the ground all night long without anyone picking him up, folding him neatly and sheltering him from the rain.

School children have to pledge loyalty to this piece of cloth every morning. No one has to pledge loyalty to justice and equality and human decency. No one has to promise that people will get a fair wage, or enough food to eat, or affordable medicine, or clean water, or air free of harmful chemicals. But we all have to promise to love a rectangle of red, white, and blue cloth.

Betsy Ross would be quite surprised to see how successful her creation has become. But Thomas Jefferson would be disappointed to see how little of the flag's real meaning remains.

Charlotte Aldebron, 12, wrote this essay for a competition in her 6th grade English class. She attends Cunningham Middle School in Presque Isle, Maine. Comments may be sent to her mom, Jillian Aldebron: aldebron@ainop.com This essay was reprinted from Common Dreams. (Thanks Mike, for the link!)

I think he just means inserting comments in the record. I do not believe he is talking about lying to the Supreme Court, which I do not believe he intended to do.

The lawyer who wrote the brief is responsible for allowing this to happen because he should have asked the questions about weather it was inserted or not.

I was really moved by Charlotte's perspective. Wouldn't it be nice if these were the people who got attention instead of the screamers and name-callers?

Judy, for crying out loud, he submitted the the thing without any of the notations that are regarded as normative in declaring that the "exchange" was never actually exchanged! Do some research--you're the law student, I'm just a backwards southern preacher!

NVB, thank God for real patriots, like little Charlotte. It gives me hope for the future of this once great country.

Why thank you, ma'am. Princesses, especially demon ones, are always welcome!
