The American Taliban Comes to South Carolina

Imagine if a bunch of religious terrorists from far away were to quietly infiltrate city councils, county councils, elected law enforcement positions, and elected judgeships in order to set up a separatist state in express opposition to the United States of America. Imagine if they gained a majority of local government positions in just two counties of a small, poor Southern state. What if their followers then emigrated to other larger areas in the state so that, within a decade, they could form a majority of the State legislature and lead a revolt against the federal government. Think it couldn’t happen? Think again.

ChristianExodus.org “is coordinating the move of thousands of Christians to South Carolina for the express purpose of re-establishing Godly, constitutional government. It is evident that the U.S. Constitution has been abandoned under our current federal system, and the efforts of Christian activism to restore our Godly republic have proven futile over the past three decades. The time has come for Christians to withdraw our consent from the current federal government and re-introduce the Christian principles once so predominant in America to a sovereign State like South Carolina.”

Their plan is to “reestablish constitutionally limited government in these two counties with the relocation of 500 Christians to one and 2,000 to the other. That number of activist émigrés, when combined with the present Christian electorate, will enable constitutionalists to win the city council, the county council, elected law enforcement positions, and elected judgeships. We will then be able to protect our God-given and constitutionally protected rights within our local community.”

This insidious group is what South Carolinians used to refer to as “outside trouble-makers.” Now, we’re hosting their conference this weekend at the Hilton Greenville where they will hear from, among other right-wing spokesmen, Colorado Republican Representative Tom Tancredo. Tancredo is backed by the GOP for re-election to his Denver seat next year. So far he has no Democratic opponent.

Christian Exodus claims to be registered as a nonprofit organization in Texas, but has not filed for 501 (c) (3) status because it feels that would limit its political activity. Indeed it would. So to change the future political enviornment, they want Christian schools all over South Carolina to become Christian madrassas, indoctrinating children about the evils of America.

What about people like me, who would be left in the minority? “If secession is effected in South Carolina, there will be a minority of unionists in the state. The under girding principle in a representative form of government is that majority rules. It then becomes the responsibility of the minority to relocate or change the policies of the state through the ballot box.” In other words, the revolution will be followed by political cleansing that will ensure the purity of the South Carolina electorate.

Were these people dancing on top of their SUV’s on 9/11? Do they rejoice with every American death in Iraq and Afghanistan? Why does the right hate America?
