She was as good there as she was at the debate. She simply knows how to campaign. A small part of my support stems from purely operational reasons: the Clintons have not lost an election since 1982!dommahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04904593003421061543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3352677.post-68504010017888944552007-07-27T15:58:00.000-04:002007-07-27T15:58:00.000-04:00Oh, fine. Or something maybe he just looked dead.

In any case, I'd love a reason not to vote for Hillary. I'm straining at the wind to make out the words from Obama that will move me. I'm just not there yet. Still, February's a long time away...Deacon Timhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14981953522017981083noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3352677.post-57165021047018946372007-07-27T09:11:00.000-04:002007-07-27T09:11:00.000-04:00I think what bothers me about making so much of on...I think what bothers me about making so much of one debate answer is that it gives more weight to debating skills than it should. It's more about how quickly he thought about an issue he wasn't prepared to address. Like I said, I don't think his answer was wrong, but even if it was, it seems an odd and trivial weight that finally moves the teeter totter over.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3352677.post-26297816514604209732007-07-27T08:54:00.000-04:002007-07-27T08:54:00.000-04:00NVB, I just knew I was going to get it on the chin...NVB, I just knew I was going to get it on the chin from you. This will cost me lunch at Little Pigs, I'm sure.

But here's why I said that: a head of state visitng another head of state is not just lunch. It's pregant with all sorts of meaning. It carries propaganda value (for both HOS) that can go a long way towards advancing one's domestic agenda (be it malignant or benign.)

If he had answered the question by saying, "In my first year, I pledge to make diplomacy rather than sabre-rattling the central tool of foreign policy. I also pledge that I will make every effort to engage even those who consider themselves our enemies, always being sure to protect America's interests....blah, blah, blah." I would have been fine.

But he rushed right in, without thinking through the question. This is not something we can afford a President to do. I haven't scratched Obama yet. I'm still playing with the adhesive on the back of the "H" sticker.Deacon Timhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14981953522017981083noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3352677.post-4299802333021021702007-07-26T22:14:00.000-04:002007-07-26T22:14:00.000-04:00Thank you for posting this.I too agree with you ab...Thank you for posting this.

I too agree with you about Obama making a big mistake. Hillary is going to drive a bus through the opening he gave her. He's trying to fight back now, but that undercuts his message of "optimism and positive campaigning."

I wrote my own analysis of the debate at my own blog, but I came to a different conclusion. I would put Biden and Richardson as the winners with Hillary placing 3rd. However, Hillary clearly benefits from having a gang on stage, so I guess she comes out a winner too.

Could it be that Hillary's negatives are going down the more we see and hear from her?

Anyways, thanks for posting this. You've scratched Obama solely because he said he would have discussions with evil leaders? I realize Clintonites think that was a gaffe and have tried to capitalize, but I'm having trouble figuring out why. How is indicating you would talk to people, whoever they are, a disqualifier?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3352677.post-81576150991592729542007-07-25T06:34:00.000-04:002007-07-25T06:34:00.000-04:00Too much interesting topice.
